U.S. Patent 11,272,400 covers advanced narrowband traffic controller units (TCUs) and their use in omni-grid systems. Inventors associated with the work include company principals and academic collaborators. The TCU structures and compresses data so it can move across constrained links without losing the mission thread.

Gridlets on the Imcon platform

The Imcon International Platform is described as an open-source distributed edgeware system running in the cloud and on mobile devices. Users interact through “Gridlets” built with web technologies. The stack is designed to run across LoRaWAN, UMTS, LTE, Bluetooth off-grid mesh, and other networks as conditions change.

Imcon has developed edgeware services and device solutions intended to conform to the Open Specifications Model for the Internet of Things, so backpacks can host sensors and applications rather than only pass packets.

An omni-grid system selects among satellite, cellular, Wi-Fi, wired backhaul, and mesh. Several backpacks can be tied together to create a local micro-network that later reattaches to the global internet when a backhaul path appears.

Drone Swarm Integration

Imcon has described pairing backpacks with drone swarms that scan for survivors while creating an instant micro-network for internet, voice, and text relay. The backpack becomes the ground hub for live video and extended coverage where towers cannot stand.

Partners at the Edge

Public collaborations have included Cradlepoint cloud-managed networking, VMware Workspace ONE for application access on any device, Orbsat/Orbital Satcom for satellite hardware and distribution, and academic work originating with Syracuse University researchers whose IP Loud commercialized in 2017.

StarPak Self-Powered Tests

Company updates have highlighted StarPak field tests that delivered high-speed internet from the backpack’s self-contained power alone—no house current, no vehicle inverter—an important bar for multi-day disaster sites.
